ALMA’s Sustainability Statement
ALMA’s global production decisions prioritise social, economic, and environmental impact. We innovate high-quality interior leather solutions while honouring our moral relationships with employees, suppliers, customers, and our urban community.
We prioritise environmental responsibility and maintain a low impact while operating in London and collaborating with our tannery partners across Europe.
Economic
For 85 years, ALMA has been a steadfast employer in London, contributing to local employment and economic growth.
ALMA prioritises fair labour, human rights, health and safety, and staff development. We also emphasise environmental responsibility through material reuse, recycling, hybrid vehicles, and energy-saving light sensors in our office.
Environmental
Leather, a by-product of the food industry, finds new life in our tanneries. From upholstery to fashion, its longevity surpasses other materials. ALMA’s European leathers adhere to strict environmental standards, recycling water and avoiding harmful Chromium 6. Certification assures our commitment, while reforestation offsets CO2 emissions. Our innovative technology reuses by-products, and we’re pioneering heavy metal-free tanning methods.
Waste
Our tanneries are seamlessly connected to water conditioning plants that supply and treat water. Wastewater undergoes thorough initial screening on-site before reaching the conditioning plant. After treatment, purified water returns to the main supply for reuse. All waste is responsibly managed by authorised disposal companies.
Packaging and Transportation
Our packaging and transportation practices prioritise sustainability. We use paper-based cardboard, recycled plastics (004 PE-LD), and quality-certified materials. Our suppliers adhere to FSC and PEFC standards, and our packaging bears the RESY symbol—a mark recognised by recyclers.
Social
Since 1938, we have crafted unique products and services through our skilled workforce. As a consistent employer in London, we’ve contributed to the local community. Our apprentice program opens doors for young talent, and our diverse team enriches our workplace culture.
Our leather offcuts find new life through recycling. They’re sold to produce small leather and fashion goods, supporting local arts, crafts, and the creative community of students, designers, and artisans.
Charitable Activities
ALMA actively supports both domestic and international charities, from funding water wells in Africa to sponsoring orphans worldwide and assisting disability centres in Southeast Asia. Locally, we’ve partnered with organizations like Aadam Life Care.
